On Thursday, March 7th, Transformative Parenting presents an evening with Dr. Gordon Neufeld, bestselling author of “Hold On to Your Kids,” and a Vancouver-based clinical and developmental psychologist specializing in children and those who care for them.
Concerned about the direction children are heading in a culture that pushes for kids to depend on each other instead of their parents, Dr. Neufeld will present “Alpha Children: Reclaiming our Rightful Places in Their Lives.” He will discuss the increasing number of children who can be classified as bossy, controlling, and demanding – generally a symptom of the lack of authority they receive from their parents. This can lead to bullying, and tend to make children difficult to parent. Dr. Neufeld will offer ways for parents to take back the reins, placing them back into the Alpha role to give their kids a more secure and safe childhood.
Todd Sarner MA MFT, Director of Transformative Parenting, and who has trained under Dr. Neufeld, uses Neufeld’s approach – not only through his practice, but in raising his own young son.
“I love my son,” Sarner said. “But my main job as a parent is to take care of him and be in charge, he should be able to relax and be a kid, at rest in the backseat, figuratively speaking.”
Dr. Gordon Neufeld holds more than 40 years of experience with children, youth, and parents and guardians. His bestselling book “Hold On to Your Kids: Why Parents Matter More Than Peers” is praised by parents, educators, and mental health professionals worldwide. Neufeld’s approach helps parents to see the bigger picture, getting to the root of the problem instead of blaming it on surface behavior.
Transformative Parenting is based in Sonoma and Marin counties, their teachings influenced greatly by Dr. Neufeld’s teachings. They support families, offering insight through personal consultations, workshops, and courses.
Tickets to “Alpha Children: Reclaiming our Rightful Places in Their Lives” are $25 in advance, and $30 at the door. The seminar is expected to fill up quickly, so it’s suggested to buy early.
The event takes place Thursday, March 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel & Spa, located at 170 Railroad St., Santa Rosa.
