For those teens who are musically inclined and would love to perform outside the square box of their parents’ garage, this note is for you.
The Sonoma County Fair is hosting the Battle of the Teen Bands contest at the Community Theater on Saturday August 11th, 7pm. And first place is $1000 with an opportunity to play the 2013 Sonoma County Fair!
Young bands that have members between the ages of 12-24 (at least two members between ages 12-18 and no more than two bandmates between 18-24 as of 7/25/12) are invited to sign up. Only the members listed on the entry form are eligible to perform and must be there on August 11th by 6pm. Each band is given 20 minutes total for set up, performance, and tear down. The band must be able to give a family-friendly performance live vocally and/or instrumentally, though a drum kit will be provided so you don’t have to lug around your own. And bonus points are given for original songs written or co-written by any member of the band. But note – slackers who claim ownership of songs that actually belong to someone else will be disqualified from the contest.
Performances will be awarded 0-40 points for Vocal/instrumental ability, and 0-20 points in each of the following categories:
1) Group Performance Ability
2) Stage presence
3) Audience Reaction.
An optional bonus of up to five points may be awarded for acts performing their own music.

*You may include a link for your demo but make sure it is a working link. Please make sure that the only performers on your demo are your own band members — no back-up singers, etc. Professional recordings aren’t necessary as they just want an idea of your style.
