Back to School
I know what you’re thinking. Already? It’s still July! But do you realize school starts up again in only a little over a month? Whether you consider that great news or something to dread, I’d love to hear from you. What is the best or worst part about the kids going back to school? Email me at crissi@santarosamom.com or reply in the forums to be included in an article I’m writing on the subject.

Enclosed parks for toddlers
Nothing like chasing around a toddler at the park to keep them from vacating the play area, right? Just kidding. What a pain! We have a list of parks members have suggested around town that are gated so your little escape artist can’t disappear so easily.

Family Events

Saturday, July 14, 7am-3pm
Cotati Kids Day: Start off with a FREE pancake breakfast, watch (or be in) the parade, and enjoy non-stop fun for the kids at La Plaza Park. The theme of “Under The Sea” is a sure way to stay cool this hot summer day!

Saturday, July 14, 11am
Healdsburg Water Carnival: The old-fashioned family fun includes barrel races (in the water!), rubber duck dash, a water parade, and so much more.

July 14-15
Civil War Days: Any kid (big and little) with a love for history will get a kick out of the war re-enactment events going on at this weekend’s Civil War Days at Freezeout Canyon in Duncan Mills. Take a step back into 1863 while you watch the war come to life, visit the encampments, and interact with the re-enactors.

Saturday July 14, 1-3pm
Meet the artist: 15 year old cartoonist Emma T Capps developed her weekly web comic “The Chapel Chronicles” in 8th grade, and won the National Gold Medal in cartoon art from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Bring your tweens and teens to meet the young artist at the Charles Schulz Museum, and maybe find some inspiration of their own.

Sunday July 15, 12-3pm
Bink & Gollie Day: Illustrator Tony Fucile will be reading from and autographing the new release of his Bink & Gollie children’s book at Cornerstone Sonoma.

Have a wonderful week, and I’ll see you on the forums!
